Ingredients

  • 200 g pasta (dry) (penne is our go to, although this works well with any type, particularly shell as the cheese and Marmite finds its way into the shell!)
  • 1 tsp oil (any oil is fine, this minimises the pastas chance of sticking)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp butter (any butter works, adjust quantity to personal preference)
  • 1.5 tbsp Marmite (any off-brand yeast extract works just as well, adjust quantity to personal preference)
  • 70 g cheese (extra mature cheddar works best, however you can substitute or mix in with any of your preferred hard cheeses)

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Spatula (or wooden spoon, we just find a spatula stirs it all in better and is easier to wash up!)
  • 1 Cheese Grater
  • 1 Colander

Method

  1. Put your pasta in the saucepan, add your oil, and a pinch of salt. To your saucepan, add boiling water. Stir occasionally to minimise sticking. Bring to the boil for twelve minutes.
  2. Add additional time if you're using cold water straight to the saucepan in absence of a kettle.
  3. Whilst your pasta is cooking, grate your cheese.
  4. Once your pasta is cooked, drain the water.
  5. Place drained pasta back into the saucepan, add in butter and stir until melted.
  6. This can be done off the heat if completed quickly.
  7. Stir in Marmite until completely covered.
  8. Serve in bowls and top with grated cheese.
